After having a great time visiting the family we loaded our van with all 7 of us and hit the road, making sure we didn't leave behind Flat Grandpa Stanley. Good thing he didn't take up much room. Russ assured us he had talked with a family member from Vale and had obtained instructions on how to get to Vale, from the family reunion. For those who are not familiar, the family reunion was at Lake Creek Youth camp in the middle of nowhere outside of John Day, Oregon. In hindsight, I should have asked Russ if he was completely sober or the person he asked, when he received the instructions, because after we left he could only remember we needed to turn at Prairie something. Out comes the map and we plot our course. Little did we know that following the path to Unity instead of Prairie City was a long mistake. As my Dad said most of the time we were high up on a little goat trail. Thankfully, Flat Grandpa Stanley survived that adventure, we found the John Day highway an hour behind schedule and Flat Grandpa Stanley had started to come around by the time we saw Vale's "V" on the hillside. Sorry Flat Grandpa Stanley but we are only passing through on our way to Arco, Idaho.
