June 27, 2012 Virginia City/Nevada City, MT

Yesterday, we made it to our cabin at Kirkwood Resort and Marina just outside of West Yellowstone, MT on Lake Hebgen.  Russ had to rent a car and drive down to Pocetello, ID to work for the day so myself, the two kids, my parents, my brother and we can't forget Flat Grandpa Stanley loaded up the van and headed out to Virginia City/Nevada City, old gold mining towns.  We did a walking tour in Virginia City and saw all the old buildings and toured the museum.  We then caught the train for a 25 minute ride to Nevada City.  There we toured old reclaimed buildings that were replicas of how the miners lived and were able to visit a cool museum that displayed self playing instruments.  To cap off the day, before the train ride back, the kids were able to pan for gold.  They found tons of beautiful garnets but there was alas, no gold in their pans.
